Neighborhood
The Yorkville area is a wine, and olive, growing area in Mendocino County, directly north of Sonoma and Napa counties, just 10 minutes from Anderson Valley with its reknowned Pinot Noir, 100 miles from San Francisco, and 40 miles from the Mendocino coast. There are several vineyards and wineries within a few miles. To both the west and east there are large apple and pear orchards.
Yorkville is known as the gateway to the Anderson Valley. It was founded in 1868 by Richard York. From its beginnings, it was characterized by its ranches of thousands of acres. With the establishment of the Yorkville Highlands AVA, it has become known for its world class wines. Yorkville is small tight knit community spread over 62 square miles. Being situated between the Alexander and Anderson Valleys offers easy access conveniences and a vibrant dining scene.
20920 Yorkville Ranch Road about 161 acres that were formerly part of the Galbreath Ranch. The Galbreaths had purchased the 7,300 acre property in 1941. The site was originally a sheep ranch and the vegetation is generally grassland with some groves of trees. About thirty years ago it was subdivided into 26 parcels of 160 acre minimum. Yorkville Ranch dates back to the earliest settlers and due to the 160 acre minimum zoning will always remain private and pristine.
The climate is Mediterranean with hot, dry summers with day time temperatures in the 90s dropping to the 60s in the evenings. Winter rains average 50 inches and it is generally mild with no hard freezes but there can be snow showers.
